Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr in the Philippines
The Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr (FSJ), or Voluntary Social Year, is a structured civic engagement and gap-year program in Germany for young people looking to gain practical experience, orient themselves before university or vocational training (Ausbildung), and contribute to social causes.
The program is open to youth who have completed compulsory education, up to age 26. Typically 12 months, though it can range from 6 to a maximum of 18 months and is full-time.
Participants (Freiwillige) work alongside professionals in non-profit, medical, or civic organizations.
The Dioceses of Alaminos and Limburg have maintained an active partnership since 1987. Central to this enduring relationship is this youth exchange through the FSJ program. Young adults from Limburg have traveled annually to Alaminos and some young adults from Alaminos come to Germany which became a tradition now mirrored by participants from both diocese.
During the 14:00 Mass last Sunday, 16th of August, in St Ignatius Church the following volunteers were welcomed back and another batch were sent and blessed by Father Alvin.
