2024 Corpus Christi Sunday – The Eucharist is not just a symbol

If the words of Jesus are only symbolic, then why should I take the mass seriously? Who cares about the mass if it is only a symbol, if it is only symbolic.If the mass is only symbolic then it does not have the real power to change my life to transform my life. If the body, the bread and the wine are only symbols, I can actually pray at home and it is just the same. It will not make any difference. It is more confortable to pray at home. Why go to Church, why go to mass if what we received in the mass is only a symbol, it is not real.

The first Christians took the words of Jesus seriously. They did not say, “it is just a symbol”, “Jesus is only speaking symbolically”
