Solemnity of the Ascension: The Great Commission

But a more important question for us today is wha does the ascencion o of the Lord mean for our personal faith? What are the spiritual truths tell us about out hope? Saint Paul in our our second reading provides us the beautiful meaning of Ascencion. He says, “What does he ascended mean? It said that he also descended into the lower regions of the earth. The one who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens that he might fill all things in the world. Vwey deep. What does St. Paul mean by these words? Two things:

First, the Ascencion means looking back. To look back… Second, the Ascencion means look forward. The Ascencion is about looking forward. Somehow the Ascencion of the Lord concludes his work and mission in the world, his earthly life. The Ascencion is the end of his earthly mission but ut is also the beginning or the continuation of that work through the disciples and the Holy Spirit.
