2024,19th Sunday in the Ordinary Time – I am the Bread of Life
And we feel miserable, we feel frustrated, we feel desperate, and we have very little hope. Where do we go? What do we do to continue, to go on? Where do we get strength and courage to continue? Elijah thought he could solve his own problem by taking his life away. That was the solution to his misery. Lord, take my life. But God provided Elijah a better solution to his problem. What was that? Stop and reflect.
Elijah stopped under the tree. And he had some time to think about his situation. And when he was about to give up, an angel came to help him. The angel gave him a little piece of bread. And that bread was from heaven, was from God. And it sustained him for another 40 days of his journey.
Where do we get strength and courage to continue? Jesus in the Gospel has these words for us. I am the living bread. The bread that I will give you is my flesh for the life of the world. Like Elijah, like Jelena, we live to have this bread in our life. This bread is the Holy Eucharist. The Holy Mass, the Body of Christ.
