The Kloster Stiepel is a monastery of the Cistercians in Bochum district Stiepel. It was founded in 1988 and is a priory of the Abbey of Heiligenkreuz , a Cistercian abbey in Austria . The foundation of the monastery was based on an initiative of the first bishop of the Ruhrbistum , Franz Cardinal Hengsbach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The monastery church is also a place of pilgrimage to the miraculous image of the “painful mother of Stiepel” and as such the only Marian pilgrimage site of the diocese. The wings of the monastery are arranged U-shaped around the pilgrimage. An outdoor altar opens to the west in the countryside. The monk cells are located in the attic; their position can be seen on the respective dormer . The monastery is a leased restaurant (“Klosterhof”) affiliated. A Latin liturgy of the monastic community is celebrated and is open for the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
